For guidance, listed on below are examples of the kind
of facilities required to provide a Battalia sized re-enactment.
What we provide:
Event content and timetable as agreed.
A liaison officer to your event.
Our own third-party insurance.
Sign posts for ECWS members to find the camp.
Our own personel to welcome our members & to control access to the modern campsite.
A fire point in the modern campsite to meet Health & Safety requirements.
Bin bags for rubbish to all participants, which are stacked in groups at the end of the event.
Stewards for the crowd line during the drill displays / skirmish.
Safety notices for the drill display/skirmish.
Commentator for the drill displays / skirmish.
Licensing of the site to use and store gunpowder (via the Trading Standards Authority)*.
Publicity photographs/information for use in any pre-publicity.
What we require:
*Storage for gunpowder - defined by the law as a properly constructed building (stone/brick/metal) which has to be locked. It must be away from the public. We would need to hold a key.
To be able to utilise cooking fires i.e. digging fire pits and replace the turf afterwards (We have done this at private houses and English Heritage sites to their satisfaction).
When necessary, a modern campsite area for our members. Suitable for tents; caravans & campervans.
Water point for the modern site. Also required for the authentic site but can be away from both.
Toilets - real toilets in the visitors centre would be ideal. Access could be controlled via retaining the key at the guard tent during the evenings, otherwise portaloos.
Firewood - approximately 3 tonnes. i.e. A skip full. Preferably dry;seasoned and straight from the tree rather than offcuts of planks etc.
For company displays or skirmishes; a suitable area with safety barriers for the crowd to stand behind - to consist of a double row approximately 30 feet apart. Metal picket posts with rope or plastic tape is usual.
PA system for the commentary during the drill display and the skirmish.
Skip at the end of the weekend to put bin bags into / someone to remove bin bags.
Provide a first aid presence such as St. John's during the skirmish.
That you inform any local authority emergency planning officer of the event. (Surprise bangs/explosions!)
