The Fairfax Battalia has a long and proud history, and a reputation as one of the best re-enactment units within the UK. The Battalia aims to re-create a company of the New Model Army of Parliament from the Civil Wars that consumed the British Isles in the mid 17^th Century. We are a combination of four member units of the English Civil War Society, but work together as one company of foot soldiers and the civilians associated with them.

The Battalia is proud of its attention to historical detail, in terms of our clothing, equipment, attitudes and the use of the weapons of the period. Our weapon drill and tactics are based as closely as possible on Drill Manuals and other sources of the period. However, we are constantly improving ourselves as new research comes to light. The Battalia is formed from a group of enthusiastic volunteers from all walks of life and the farthest reaches of the country. The one thing we have in common is an interest in – in many cases a passion for – the history of the Civil Wars. Although not a professional organisation we pride ourselves on our professional manner. Our presentations and re-enactments aim to bring the 17^th century to life, but also to educate, interest and provide informed entertainment for those who come to see us.

 The Fairfax Battalia aims to display as much of the variety of mid-17^th century military and civilian life as possible. As such there is something for everyone within our ranks, whatever your interest in this most fascinating of periods in our history. That said, we are always open to new ideas from any quarter that will improve our presentations and “Living Histories”. We are constantly developing and evolving as new and varied challenges present themselves, and new research casts an ever-changing light on history. I feel that the Fairfax Battalia has something for everyone, whether you are a spectator at one of our displays, a student at one of our education days, a sponsor of one of our events, or a member of the Battalia itself.
